剧情简介
Deputy Assistant Com missioner Ch arlie Hillian is killed on the night o f his retirem ent party. H illian was at one time a senior offi cer i n Oxford and was i n fact Morse's boss. He was also writing a book about his most memorable cases, i ncluding one a bout the u nsolve d d eath of an 8-year-old girl some 18 years ago. The suspect in that case, Fred erick R ed path, was at Hillian 9;s house the da y he died and that ch apter from the manuscript is missing. There are o ther suspects however, including Hillian's ghost wr iter who will now receive all of the book's royalties ; a handyman who was wo rking on t he property; and Redpath's daug hte r, who knew th e litt le girl who was killed all those years before. Morse comes into conflict with with a co lleague DCI Dawson, wh o was one of Hillian's protégés, as they again loo k into the little girl 9;s death.
