剧情简介
Martin Elling ham, a London-based surgeon, relocates to the picturesque seas ide village of Port Wenn, establi shi ng h imself as the area's general practitioner. He grew up in the area havi ng been raised by h i s now widowed A unt Joan Norton. His reasons for leaving London and the hi gh-p aid life of a consultant are not cl ear initially but related to a phobia he has recently developed. He soon meets s eve ral of the local s and eccentricity abounds. Martin's si tuation is made more difficult by what can only be referred a s an almost complete lac k of an acceptable bedside m anner. He is gruff, a brupt and intolerant, not o nl y in i ssues related to medicine, but to life in gener al. He and the headmistress of th e local school, L ouisa Glasson, are clearly attr acted to each oth er and despite their awkwardness, slowly develop a rela tionship.
